“He was honoured for spearheading the establishment of Mukolwe Branch under African National Congress (ANC) in Mporokoso. In 1950 he formed Mbotwa and Ndamaso Branches. He later joined United National Independence Party (UNIP) at its inception. During Cha-cha-cha era, he was involved in the burning of bridges and blocking of roads. In 1961 he was arrested and imprisoned at Milima Prison in Kasama. On 24th October he was among those who travelled from Northern Province to Lusaka to witness the lowering of Union Jack flag and hoisting of the Zambian flag at the Independence stadium in Lusaka symbolizing that the Nation was born.”
