“He has honoured the service contributed to the struggle for independence which he started in 1955 when he was appointed District Organising Secretary for Luwingu in the African National Congress, where he subsequently rose through the ranks to Nationals Chairman. In the 1960s, he became Constituency Vice-Secretary for Kasama. During this political period he was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment at Bwana Mukubwa and Broken Hill Prisons, respectively and lost his house during the disturbances leading to his arrest.”
