“They were honoured for their dedication to duty in their efforts to qualify the Zambia National Soccer Team to the 1994 World Cup. The group, consisting of footballers, Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) officials, Journalists and a Zambia Air Force (ZAF) crew perished in a plane crash off the coast of Libreville in Gabon on their way to play a World Cup qualifier match in Senegal in 1993 that may have secured Zambia’s maiden appearance at the much fancied football showpiece.”
